Let me hit you with some opinionated knowledge because one thing I have in abundance is opinions... and a little bit of insight. Marketing online is simple... but it ain't easy! I can pinpoint the turnaround in my personal situation with Internet marketing to a few simple basics.

Stick With It: Choose a business opportunity, a product, a programme or a plan and stick with it. Humans are curious by nature. We're always looking for an easier, quicker and cheaper way to get to where we want to be. In an online business, there are no short cuts and there's no easy route home. The only fast buck in this game is the one in yonder woods grazing... and has antlers!

Temptation is everywhere on the Internet with seductive invites to make $956,245USD by Monday, clear your acne by Tuesday, get slim by Wednesday, become a stud by Thursday and jam like Jimi Hendrix on Friday. The weekends are for relaxing... know what I mean? The apprentice Internet marketer is beckoned from all directions as if in the local red light district.

Conduct your due diligence into the product, the business or opportunity that appeals to you.. and then cane it! Focus is the key because your business might take a little to time to produce the big results. You might not even see any results for a while. This is when your mind will wander. This is when you'll be at your weakest when other offers and other opportunities will seem more attractive. You've got to be smart and resist all temptations. If you give in, you'll always be flipping from opportunity to product to business to programme. You might make some money here or there but you'll never make it big. Do you agree?

Internet marketing is just such a huge area of expertise that no one human can master all of the various methods, skills and techniques available. Even with a ZERO marketing budget you can still make a powerful impact. If you can or like writing then article marketing, blogging, forums may be your bag. Facebook addicts can use social media to market thier products or service. Got a video cam? YouTube, Viddler and others are calling you now. Specify a few areas of marketing activity and get real good at it. Get the sales and the money coming in.

I specialise in article marketing and Facebook with a little bit of video but I started by blogging, Facebook, Twitter, online classifieds, articles, Google AdWords, forums, commenting, YouTube, emails, sms marketing, shouting and a lot more. Big mistake, lost money, waste of time. Don't do it!

Be A Pal: Build a list and then build a relationship with that list. Most people won't buy your product or service at the first viewing and will require time before they'll commit money to your product or service, especially if it's a big ticket, high priced one.

If they've opted in to your list it means that they're interested but need more information and confidence. So don't let them down. Offer more information through regular email messages and be perceived as a helper, an assistant or a consultant rather than a salesperson. Show that you're an expert and offer advice and knowledge. In this way they're buying you because they trust and like you. Building a good relationship with your subscribers attracts them to you.

I wasn't looking for Google... but Google was looking for me.

Google seemed very austere. No flashing banners, no blinking buttons, no prettiness at all in fact, but very COOL non-the-less. Less is more. Clothed in simple green and blue, I liked Google right away.

Google said that I could search all of the world's information that was currently online. Google said that one day, in the near future, the sum of all human experience, the totality of all knowledge would be safely stored, managed and maintained by Google.

Wow! I said. What do you want in return? Nothing said Google. Google love is yours for FREE.

Later Google said to me that I could use a new 'threaded' email system that would give me 2Gb of web memory space so that I need never ever delete another email. All of my emails could be kept for the record, on the record forever.

Still later Google said to me that I was so cherished that I could have a calendar in which I could input all of my appointments and tasks and all of my contacts of friends, family and associates. I could access this information from any computer, anywhere in the world at any time.

Soon Google gave me Docs for me to write, analyse, plan and present with complete ease and accessible by anyone whom I authorised. My friend and I could collaborate and work on the same document together even if he was in Tokyo and I am in London.

Google encouraged me to use Chrome as my browser of choice as all other browsers are... so steam-aged. Google convinced me that I needed speed in my browsing experience. This is the fastest loading browser on God's Green Earth they said. I hate Redmond so I was cool with that.

Over the years Google has given me Alerts, Books, Blogger, Checkout, Custom Search, Desktop, Earth, Finance, IGoogle, Images, Maps, News, Product Search, Scholar, Toolbar, YouTube and also Groups, Picassa, Reader, Sites, SketchUp, Translate and more...

Google just kept on giving and giving and giving...

Over the years Google and I have become very close, so close that Google now knows more about me than I probably do myself.

Who I am, who my friends and family are: Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, Checkout, Steetview. Google has a record of all of my personal information including banking and financial affairs. My calendar holds up to date contact information on all of my family, friends and business associates. It knows where they all live and what their houses and streets look like.

My financial affairs: AdSense, Adwords, Checkout, Streetview. Google knows where I work, what I do and how much money I make, where that money comes from and why. Google knows where I work, from which office and what it looks like.

Where I am, what time, with whom, for how long: Calendar, Latitude, Maps, Gmail, Earth, Search. Google knows where I am from my calendar but also from the computer I am using it can tell which city I'm in, how I got there, which websites I visit, how long I stayed there and which language I read in.

What I read and talk about: Google News, Gmail, Blogger, Search, GTalk, Voice. Google knows what type of news I am interested in. It knows what subjects I read about. It knows and has back ups of every single email that I have sent or was sent to me and by whom at what time and what the content was. These are packaged in 'conversations' so are all related to each other.

What my interests are: Search, Blogger, Voice, Picassa, Gmail, Chrome, Docs, Checkout. Google tracks every search I make and which links I click to and for how long. Google knows my shopping habits, what I buy, where they are delivered to and how much it cost. It deduces my spending budget and financial thresholds.

What I watch and when I watch: YouTube, Search, Chrome. Google notes what I look at on YouTube and how many similar videos I watch. It can deduce from this what kind of TV and movie shows I would be interested in and when they should be promoted to me. Every search is logged and recorded.

Cross-referenced and cross-correlated Google can infer from this arsenal of digital information my complete make-up as a person and a Google user.

The listing above is not exhaustive and I'm sure you can point out other areas of Google dominance. Hint: Google Health, Google Mobile, Google Wave, Chrome OS... get my drift?

You might think that, knowing all of the above as I do, I am against Google. But you'd be wrong. Apart from the China censorship scandal, I actually believe that, on balance, Google is a worthy entity and on the whole makes life easier for most. Right now, it is a benevolent power.

I'll panic when the Google board members consider changing the name to SkyNet.

How I Changed My Life With A Computer And Internet Access

One of the biggest barriers to owning and running your own business is the start-up costs that come with it. With traditional business ventures you would most likely need an office, shop or factory.

You don't have to be George Lucas to make an Internet marketing video. Some preparation is needed however, but this will centre on your subject matter, what you are going to say and how you want viewers to respond after watching your video.

Subject:

What are you going to talk about in your video? Is it an introduction to yourself and your business? Is it to discuss a certain point of your business? Maybe your promoting a special one-off offer or limited availability service? Is it a tutorial or a 'how to' on a specific subject?

Structure:

1) Introduction: Let your audience know who you are and what you're going to be talking about.

2) Main Thrust: The main body will be on the subject matter that you want to talk about.

3) Call To Action: End with a call to action. This is a request for the viewer to take some action and could be to fill in an opt-in box or click on a link for more information, both designed to direct people to your main sales website.

Rehearse:

Write out some bullet points to remind you of what you want to say. Highlight the main points that you want to make and do some dry runs to the camera to see how that best works out. Change and modify as required.

Clarity:

Talk clearly and naturally as if you're talking to someone right in front of you. Viewers will be put off if it's obvious that you're reading from a script. Let your words flow naturally. It's best to use normal everyday language. If it's not a video on quantum mechanics then don't use scientific language. You want people to understand what you have to offer and want to find out more about it.

Concise:

Most people have a short attention span and will be distracted by a hundred other things if your video drags on too long. If you lose them it's hard to get them back. There is no 'law' as to the ideal length of a video because this is down to your subject matter and what you have to say about it. If it's important to say, then it's important to say! Personally I say around 2 minutes or less for an intro video and 4/5 minutes in general but remember, your video can be of any length. Tutorials and 'how to' videos by their very nature will obviously be longer.

Film it and get it out there! Get it on video and get it to the public arena where it can do the most good. Don't worry about High Definition, 1080p or Dolby Digital Audio. Remember that you are ultimately selling yourself, you are creating your own brand. Show viewers as you are by being yourself. Show viewers who you are by being who you are.

We can't eliminate them fully because they're part of human nature, part of our make up. But you have to master them at all times if you want to be successful and make money online.

If a task needs to be done now, don't delay it, do it now. No matter how tough or repulsive it may be, do it now, and get it out of the way and go on to the next task. You and I can't allow things to pile up. If we do, we're screwed! Do you agree?

Ignorance - I don't know how. Ignorance is NOT bliss when you have an online business to run. Ignorance is missed opportunities, and lack of action at critical times. Ignorance is failure in an online business. If you're ignorant about a topic or subject that's relevant or possibly critical to your online success then enquire and learn. If you choose to remain ignorant, then you're just a fool.

Fear - I can't do this. In Bangladesh they say; When the problem rests on your shoulders, you'll know how to cope. The three traps below particularly afflicted me in my apprenticeship days so I hope you can avoid them. They are so smooth you may not even know you're doing this until it's pointed out to you.

1. Information Overload.

When you start your new online business you'll be excited and raring to go to make a million dollars. You'll grasp and seek every bit of information in order to use it to make your money. So much information is available that the mind can't absorb it all and cannot put it into order. You know so much that you can't decide what to implement. You want to do everything but, in the end, you do nothing. It gets confusing and the information soon turns to 'noise'.

Some of the info will be contradictory, some will be false and it soon becomes difficult to work out which is which. You might put some of the things you learn into practice, but only until the next best thing comes along. Because your efforts are just half-hearted, some of your actions might work, most will probably not and sooner rather that later you'll begin to feel frustrated, then angry, then depressed.

Depression will lead you to just one conclusion; That Internet marketing and making money online is just bollocks! This is dangerous. Do you agree?

2. Too Many Cooks Spoil The Broth And Online Marketing.

Linked to information overload is having too many people from whom you gain your information. Hopefully you have a good sponsor or mentor and it should be this person who guides you, if only because they make money when you do. Then there is the issue of trying too many tactics that overwhelm your work schedule and lead to half-baked efforts in all of them that bring in low or no sales. Again this is a heart-breaker. In the beginning everyone has a trial and error period where you'll try assorted techniques to discover which method works best for your business. Once you've found it, stick to it and focus on it. Become a master at that and only add other strategies if they implement or enhance your main method.

One of the most effective ways to attract new targeted visitors to your website is by using the power of the Internet forums and community chat-rooms. Every subject and niche on this planet has a forum dedicated to it's fans and followers to discuss, debate, seek assistance, offer help and to trade. Promote Your Links In The Signature Box

Signature Box: You will have to register with the forum before you can post any comments. When you post a comment a Signature Box at the bottom of your posts is available for links to your websites or promotions. Use this wisely. Don't fill it up with a mass of links. Two is OK and three is more than enough.

Link Relevancy: Make sure the links are related to the forum subject. If you're posting on a weight-loss forum it makes no sense to post links to an automobile website. If you have a car website, why are you posting on a weight-loss forum anyway? Change your product or change your website. Remember these are people with a common interest and if you can help resolve an issue that exists, then say so and tell people how.

Forum Visitors Are More Likely To Click Your Links If You Are...

1. Relevant: Make your posts relate to the topic or niche under discussion.

2. Contribute: Add something to the debate taking place. If you have a point of view, express it and invite others to comment. If you have an experience that might help others then post it and make sure your articles reflect and display your industry knowledge.

3. Pose Questions: Ask and the forums will deliver. If you're stuck and have a question then ask the visitors of the forums. Someone, somewhere will have the answer that you're looking for.

4. Answer Questions: If you know the answer to a question that's been posed then post the answer. Many people will see the answer and, if it's a good one, this will enhance your reputation as an authority which will compel people to click on your links.

NO, NO, NO! Don't be a tosser!

1. No links to unrelated sites or promotions. What's the point? You'll just destroy your reputation and turn people off.

2. Don't put links to your website directly in your posts. Leave the link in your Signature Box. If your posts are interesting or inspiring, readers will click your Signature Box to find out more. Remember, spamming a forum with links will get you banned.

3. Don't post spam articles. All major search engines penalise anything that has too many keywords or links or appears 'too promotional'. You'll be considered a nuisance and banned very quickly.

4. Don’t just cut and paste generic comments or posts other people have made. Try and be original and say something new or say something old in a new way.

5. Please DO NOT be rude. The world is big but the Internet world is small. You'll tarnish your name for no good reason.

Using forums is part of the 'you as brand' philosophy. People buy from those they trust and respect. Posting on forums exposes your knowledge and presence to people who may be looking for what you are offering.

If Your Mentor Is An Ass, Thank God! Why A Useless Sponsor Is Not The End Of The World

But if your mentor is a hero, even better! A good mentor or sponsor is hard to find and if you have one then hold on and don't let go... at least not until you've learned everything you can.

The fact is that there are more bad mentors than good ones. Most are not bad people, just bad mentors. Their intentions might be right but their actions are pointless or useless although there are some people who just don't care. Now they've got your money, you can go to hell!

Some sponsors and mentors are new into the business themselves and are learning too, so can offer little in the way of knowledge to others. Again, they're not bad people, just out of their depth. One day they may develop into good mentors.

Bad mentors and mediocre sponsors lead to one thing... orphans. You're an orphan if you think your sponsor or mentor is not providing you with the guidance, advice and help that you need and require. You're an orphan if you and your sponsor / mentor don't speak because you've got nothing to say!

Seek another more qualified person in the business that you've chosen to act as a surrogate mentor, but this is not as easy as it sounds. There is sometimes some red tape to overcome.

When I found myself as an Internet orphan and I couldn't overcome the red tape, I resorted to the Law Of Reverse Motivation.

The Law Of Reverse Motivation: It means I rebelled against the idea that I might be led to fail in my online business because of a bad mentor, sponsor or teacher. I rebelled against the thought that someone who didn't care about me might determine the level of my success and happiness. I was motivated to be successful BECAUSE my mentor was lacking. I was compelled to act BECAUSE my sponsor was missing in action. I used my dire situation to spur me on, to force myself to become successful.

Internet Marketing Forums: The Internet Marketing community as a whole can be your mentor. Hundreds of thousands and quite possibly millions of people across the world are making money online and are quite happy to offer advice and suggestions to you and your business. We meet in forums on every topic for discussions and debate and innovation. You can learn a lot there. Most people will genuinely want to help you and will offer tips, techniques and ideas that work. Ask and post your questions and get answers. Take it for what it is.

Search for Warrior Forums. This is the best in my opinion although there are many others.

Self-Educate: A mentor is there to act as a teacher and a coach to you and your online business but if yours is missing and you can't get a surrogate, then you must self-educate yourself. Use the forums and learn from other members in your business, after all, apart from giving up, do you really have a choice?

If every sale pays you $1000, you'll need just 1 sale each week to earn $4000 per month or $52,000 per annum. If you could make an average of 2 sales per week then you're on an executive income. Once you're making the sales they add up very quickly. In this type of marketing, building a relationship with a potential buyer is the key. In marketing in general it is said that 'people buy from people' but this is especially true when promoting products with a high cost. They buyer will look to part with his money to someone who they trust, believe and are comfortable with.

And The Downer:

However, sales take more time because potential buyers need time to think about the whole offer or product you are selling. Most people will not buy the first time they visit your website. A buyer will usually inspect and research your offer more thoroughly to be absolutely sure that it solves a problem they have.

Small Ticket Good Stuff:

It's easier for people to buy products that have a low price and they are quite happy to buy the very first time they visit your website as long as your product solves their problem. These lower priced products are usually information, advice or membership offers that are delivered digitally in the shape of ebook, reports, PDF, audio files. A vast range of products are readily available via ClickBank and other similar groups who provide everything, including websites, payment gateway, commission distribution and support leaving you to just market and promote. It's very quick and easy to set up in this business and at very low cost. Aim to market a product in a niche where people are having real problems in and provide the solution with your product.

And The Downer:

You'll need to make a large amount of sales to make a decent amount of money though. Twenty sales at $50 each will only give you $1000. You'll need to make 80 sales per month to earn $4000. Competition is vibrant in this field as there will be many people marketing the same product as you so you need to somehow differentiate yourself from the crowd. But remember this, with the right product and the correct marketing strategy, people are making thousands of sales per month with these low priced products.

In the end, it''s really up to you whether you favour high priced or low priced products. Which do you feel comfortable with? That's the key. If you don't think you can sell high priced items... you're probably right! However, there's nothing to stop you doing both to compliment each other. Why It's Better To Be A Sheep And Follow The Lead In Internet Marketing.

Like you, when I was younger I actually thought I was great! To be fair, I still do. But back then I thought I was a world-changer. Now that the wannabee billionaires looking for Get Rich Quick Schemes have left, you and I can get REAL about making money and the methods that can be used to generate a large income.

How I Began To Make Money Online

Everyone has to go through difficult times in their life and I am no different. I have been involved with some great businesses and some really bad ones. In 2007, just as the credit crunch began to bite I was forced to put a company I was running into receivership.

I had no money and no job. Maybe you can identify with this at some level. There are people who are lot worse off than I was but at that time I felt pretty low and desperate.

I had been familiar with the Internet since 1999 so I knew it was possible to make money online. But I also realised that to make an income from the Internet would require me to learn new techniques and methods that are geared for a successful online business.

I also knew that if I could master online marketing I would be able to make a substantial income that would go a long way to solving my financial woes.

The Internet itself is the GREATEST benefactor to humankind but is also the MOST dangerous place for those who are new, unfamiliar or the uninitiated. Danger lurks all around and the apprentice Internet moneymaker must be very aware.

So many scams and parlour tricks will successfully part you and your hard-earned money unless you are vigilante.

I know. My bank account emptied quite quickly once I got caught up with all of the 'make money with no work' gimmicks.

For me this was a learning curve because having lost that money I could still argue that it taught me lot about Internet Marketing and how sometimes that power can be abused.

I conducted some due diligence on a few companies and realised that there is a criteria to adhere to when choosing who to work with on your online business.

1. The Business: The Internet is relatively new but make sure the business you are joining is a reputable one and operates in a reputable market and has done so for a reasonable amount of time.

2. The Product / Service: Make sure that the product or service is one that buyers and customers want or need and will pay for. The fanciest product in the world is all well and good but if there is no market for it... well, you'll just have empty pockets!

3. Support: Both for you and the customer or buyer. You will need the company's support, especially in the early days, to learn and educate yourself about your product or service, about the marketing, about the customer relationship. The customer will need the company's support in case of any problems with ordering, payments, subscriptions.

It's really important to ensure that your customer is satisfied as they will probably buy again in the future and if they do, you want it to be from you.

4. Mentor Teacher: Check to ensure that people who are already in the business that you are joining are making the amounts of income you want to. Then choose one of them as a mentor, coach and teacher. You will learn from them and your mentor can guide you to make the biggest impact in the least amount of time.

And remember your INSTINCT! Trust your instinct as more often than not, that is always a good indicator. Once you've made your choice commit to making your new venture a success. Commit to putting in the effort, energy and time to changing your life.
